K Road Chronicles is a look at homelessness from the inside. Six – once homeless herself for several years, now a journalist – is our guide to the colourful, diverse, harsh and often tragic world of street people living on and around Auckland’s Karangahape Road.
Unable to find work herself, Six launched a self-funded street newspaper the K Road Chronicle, a monthly publication with stories for and about Auckland’s homeless community. This series follows Six as she meets, interviews and even assists her subjects, gathering their stories for the paper.
This eight-part series for Stuff, made with funding from NZ On Air, interviews a diverse range of people: the homeless, formerly homeless, family members, and support workers. The judge presiding over Auckland’s ‘Homeless Court’, an alcoholic dad and his daughter, the homeless man and his dog, social workers, a homeless sex worker, and a synthetics addict are all characters in this groundbreaking new series.
